Our Environmental activities

As BATIÇİM, our aim with our cement factory is to produce clinker and cement in accordance with national and international standards and to supply these products with a service understanding that complies with the customers' desires and expectations. Having been fulfilling our responsibilities as part of the TS-EN-ISO 14001 certificate we have received in 2005, our general principle is to respect nature and to prevent environmental pollution. We are aware that protecting and improving the environment we live in is an integral part of our work and our lives. For this reason, we take maximum care to prevent environmental pollution and to consciously use natural resources. We reduce the resulting wastes at the source, and we recycle these wastes whenever possible. Our activities in this regard are as follows;
-Using gas and dust analyzers that continously perform measurements and record the results
-Sorting wastes at source and utilizing temporary waste storage facility and related equipment
-Generating power by utilizing the waste heat released into the atmosphere
-Using sound attenuators and galleries to minimize environmental noise
-Using vacuum cleaners and street sprinklers with the aim of preventing outdoor dust
- Reducing the consumption of natural resources by using alternative fuels and raw materials

Investing in green technology

Staying on track with the purpose of providing a more livable world in the future, it is among our priorities to invest in the latest technology in order to protect the nature and prevent environmental pollution while we carry out our work. All electro-filters of the rotary kilns available in the factory were converted into bag filters with the investment made in 2012, ensuring the reduction of dust emissions, which cannot be avoided in advance, down to 1 mg/Nm3, much lower than than the legal limit of 30 mg/Nm3.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

30% of the electrical energy consumed is being generated within the facillity, using the heat produced by the production process at the waste heat recovery plant, which has been commissioned in 2012 with 9 MW installed power. For the first time in Turkey, the heat released from the kiln mantle to the atmosphere is recycled with the help of exchangers, and is used to meet the steam and hot water needs of the social buildings and production facilities. Additionally, in order to reduce fossil fuel consumption, the production of blended cement is increased from year to year by adhering to national and international standards.

Waste Management

Waste management procedures, such as sorting at the source, separate collection, recycling and disposal procedures, are carried out for all hazardous and nonhazardous wastes, within the scope of the waste management system that has been in effect since 2005. The wastes are regained to the economy by means of becoming a solution partner of the production facilities in the region for the disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous wastes. Nonhazardous wastes that can substitute raw materials are utilized as alternative raw materials in order for the efficient use of resources through reducing the dependence on natural resources.

Eco-friendly tagging

Our company, which targets environmental sustainability, has been involved in the European Union-supported “Environmental Footprint for the Business World” project as a pilot company and realized carbon footprint calculations within the scope of the project it has carried out jointly with the Aegean Forest Foundation, Lifelong Learning Vocational Training and Development Association and the UK-based The Carbon Trust.

Forestation activities

We are aware that protecting and improving the environment we live in is an integral part of our work and our lives. In addition to the environmental rehabilitation of the fields where we operate as Batıçim, we continuously maintain our environmental activities with the principle of leaving a greener world for future generations. We have planted 46 thousand saplings in about 44.5 hectares (445 thousand m2) within the scope of our rehabilitation works we have launched in Belkahve since 2007. We restore the ecological balance in the sites, where we operate limestone mines to produce the limestone we use in cement production, through our rehabilitation works that we carry out immediately after we cease production. By harmonizing the topography of the site, which has emerged after our use, with its natural topography, we ensure that the site is available for use with agricultural purposes and purposes of forestry.
